Immigration Evaluations

BECAUSE EVERY STORY DESERVES TO BE UNDERSTOOD

What is an...

IMMigration Evaluation?

An immigration evaluation is a mental health assessment completed by a licensed clinician to support an immigration legal case. I provide these evaluations virtually for clients in NJ and conduct a comprehensive clinical interview that includes a review of mental health history and a DSM-5 diagnosis when applicable. The evaluation explores emotional stability, coping skills, trauma history, and how past or current immigration-related stressors impact daily functioning and overall psychological wellbeing.

EVALUATIONS

VAWA Evaluations

  • A VAWA evaluation is a mental health assessment used in immigration cases under the Violence Against Women Act. VAWA allows individuals who have experienced domestic violence, including men, to apply for immigration benefits without the knowledge or cooperation of an abusive U.S. citizen or permanent resident spouse, parent, or child. During the evaluation, I assess the emotional, psychological, physical, and financial impact of the abuse and how it has affected overall wellbeing and daily functioning.

T-VISA Evaluations

  • A U-Visa evaluation is a mental health assessment used in immigration cases for individuals who have been victims of serious crimes, such as domestic violence, sexual assault, or physical assault. The U-Visa is designed to protect victims who cooperate with law enforcement during the investigation of criminal activity. This evaluation helps document the emotional, psychological, physical, and financial impact of the crime, including any lasting effects on mental health and daily functioning.

U-Visa Evaluations

  • A T-Visa evaluation is a mental health assessment used in immigration cases for individuals who have experienced human trafficking. The T-Visa allows victims of trafficking to remain in the United States when they are able to assist law enforcement with the investigation or prosecution of the crime. During the evaluation, I assess the psychological, emotional, physical, and financial impact of the trafficking experience and how it has affected overall wellbeing and daily functioning.

Extreme Hardship

  • An extreme hardship evaluation is a mental health assessment used in immigration cases where a waiver is requested due to the hardship a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident would experience if their non-citizen family member were deported or required to leave the country. The evaluation focuses on the emotional, psychological, physical, financial, and educational impact that separation or relocation would cause. This process helps clearly document the level of hardship in a supportive and clinically appropriate way to strengthen the immigration case.

asylum evaluations

  • An asylum evaluation is a mental health assessment used in immigration cases for individuals seeking protection in the United States due to past persecution or a fear of future persecution in their country of origin. This can be related to race, religion, nationality, political beliefs, or membership in a particular social group, and the asylum application is typically filed with an attorney within one year of arriving in the U.S. During the evaluation, I assess the psychological, emotional, and physical effects of these experiences and how persecution has impacted overall wellbeing and daily functioning.
